The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25,000 Mercury Prize winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

He was awarded the cheque on mid-October as his new release People Watching was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the essential function small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I performed around the North East, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, well-known musicians like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also took part, generating in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds supported locations that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties arising from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Additional spaces were granted funding support in improving infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The notion that revenue from concerts in major spaces supports the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

The musician is not the first artist to donate his honor winnings to good deeds.

When they won the prize in the year 1996 for their release the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would give their prize money to the organization the charity.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite shared her prize across a few charities, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a grand to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite told the media.

Previously, Ezra Collective gave their prize money to the youth organization that developed their group, alongside other local music groups.

Additionally winners that year they donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"The victory was ample," remarked vocalist the singer. "The cash was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success touched somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust shared it had protected a couple of small stages in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the second in the city were bought under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by a national body and supporters who purchase "shares" in the venues.
